Our founding story
How a kitchen-table idea in Austin became a national community
Loviaflame was founded in the spring of 2017 in Austin, Texas, by Eleanor Hayes and Marcus Whitfield - two longtime friends who had each watched a parent struggle with online dating after losing a spouse. Eleanor's mother, then 64, had been scammed out of $4,800 by a fraudulent profile on a generic dating app. Marcus's father, recently widowed at 67, gave up after three weeks because "everyone was either fake or thirty years too young."
The two sat at Eleanor's kitchen table in East Austin and sketched out what a dating site for their parents would look like. Verified profiles only. Age-segmented community. A safety team you could phone. No flashy gamification. Larger text. Plain pricing. They called the project Loviaflame - a small, steady flame, not a fireworks display.
Nine years later, that kitchen-table list still drives every decision. Loviaflame remains independently owned, US-based, and run from a 32-person office in Austin with member care staff in Charlotte, North Carolina. We've never taken venture capital that demanded growth-at-all-costs metrics, and we've never sold member data. We answer to the people on the platform - nobody else.

- Live photo capture - applicants take a short selfie that confirms a real person is behind the profile picture.
- Government ID match - our verification partner cross-references the photo with a valid US ID. The ID is never displayed publicly, and the image is encrypted and deleted within 30 days.
